Austin Chronicle Austin-based rapper George VonDoom held his first Austin Hip Hop Awards show in 2008 with funds out of his own pocket. It largely remained a solo mission in the years following, a one-man effort to give overlooked artists more exposure – and something to look forward to – in the disconnected local hip-hop scene. “I remember when I started this I knew of so many people that were on the Eastside instead of on the Westside,” the artist, born George Corbin, says. “So they would mention your Phranchyzes, Leagues, and MC Overlords. Rest in Peace to Overlord. But I also knew about your Gutta Gangs, Above All Entertainments, and your Black Diamonds. I’ve seen [those] people in publications, but these guys over here [were] hungry.

SUPPORTING

LOCALHIP HOP

There are many ways to support local hip hop in Austin, TX.  Our efforts beyond our awards show  includes sponsoring local events, community outreach , charity drives, networking events, and connecting artists to local endorsees.

The Austin Hip Hop Awards was founded in 2008 by George Corbin with two visions in mind. One... To show appreciation to the hard working and well deserving Hip Hop artists of the Capitol City, and Two....To inspire local artists by creating a unified platform, enabling them to achieve new heights. The sole purpose of the Austin Hip Hop Awards is to eventually put eyes on the Hip Hop scene of this great city to a point where we overshadow Houston and Dallas. Mr. Corbin saw a level of talent, in multiple artist, that surpased a great percentage of mainstream talents  in the city in 2008 such as Gutta, Basswood Lane, Gutta Gang, COD, ATV Records, 45th productions, and Impac. All of which have went on to go on tours, open for major artists, movie placement, and place production on major albums with people such as Paul Wall, Devin The Dude, Spice 1, Dot Mob, Styles P and the list goes on.  This is Austin.....This is Austin Hip Hop
